Active Membership requirements

KWS ACTIVE MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS
 
  • Must pay dues (currently $40/year).
  • Must attend a minimum of two meetings per year (meetings are held in Jan, Feb, March, April, May, Sept, Oct., Nov.   June is our picnic and December is our Christmas Party.)
  • Must exhibit in at least two KWS shows per year.
  • Must serve as an officer (president, vice president, recording secretary, corresponding secretary, treasurer) or as the chairperson of one of the following committees (Exhibitions, Public Relations/Publicity, Social) within three years of becoming an Active Member.  Committees could change.
 
EXHIBITION GUIDELINES
 
  • All works shown in scheduled shows must be of high quality and completed within two years prior to exhibitions.
  • Paintings must not be shown more than twice in any Knoxville Watercolor Society exhibitions and never more than once in the same gallery.
  • All works must be original.  Paintings copied from commercial or published photographs or other artists’ works will not be exhibited and are not to be identified with KWS labels. 
 
PRESENTATION GUIDELINES FOR KWS SHOWS
 
  • All outside mats for matted paintings must be LIGHT NEUTRAL or WHITE.
  • A firm, sturdy frame appropriate to the size of the painting must be used.
  • Plexiglas is REQUIRED and must be properly and securely fitted to the frame.
  • Backing must be heavy enough to protect the painting and make the frame more rigid.
  • Picture frame wire that is strong enough to support the weight of the framed painting must be securely attached on both sides with D-rings 1/3 down from the top and with enough slack to hang with ease.
  • All paintings must have KWS identification labels that are filled out in full and attached to the backside of painting.
 
KWS / KWS MEMBERS’ LIABILITY
 
  • The artist exonerates the Knoxville Watercolor Society and any KWS members from any liability for losses or damages which might occur during KWS shows and/or transporting and handling of art work for exhibitions, jurying, or other related functions of KWS and; WHEREAS each artist attests by his/her active membership in KWS to conditions herein.
